Automotive industry giant VW to introduce self-parking cars by 2020

The Volkswagen Group encompassing Audi, Lamborghini, Bentley, and Porsche, has made it to the headlines for making self-parking cars a practical reality. As per authentic reports the company is currently testing its autonomous parking at the Hamburg Airport and is planning to put the technology on the road by the beginning of 2020.

In a company statement Volkswagen claims that New York City residents spend more than 100 hours on average for parking every year, while the Brits spend over 44 hours. In this regard, the German automaker is planning to minimize the time for their customers to as close to none. The system will be made available in a few selected parking garages at first, cite sources.

Authentic reports reveal that the system will come out in two phases. In the first phase, the cars with self-parking will be guided to an isolated section where they don’t have to encounter any unpredictability of the human drivers. In the second stage, the company plans to enable “mixed” parking where the piloted and autonomous cars will share the same area to see how they can handle unpredictable pedestrians and cars.

Currently, Porsche, Audi, and VW cars with the latest VW Artificial Intelligence technology can self-navigate to a free spot using a map data to navigate and spot pictorial markets for orientation using sensors. Besides, when the drivers return, they can message their car with an app and their vehicle will navigate back to the entrance.

Industry experts deem that autonomous or self-parking technology is making important headways in creating stress free and convenient mobility for the customers. Not only VW, but other automotive industry giants including BMW, Jaguar, Nissan, and Ford are all working on getting autonomous technology ready for street and garage testing.

Experts however assert that since the Volkswagen Group has been the first one out of the gate for public testing, the company would be able to reconsolidate its position in the flourishing automotive industry.
